Why do I have this? I really hope that I didn’t pay money for this.
The Green River Burial is a band that demonstrates why “metalcore” is a pejorative. There are two singers: one with a decent high-pitched scream akin to fellow Deutschlanders Heaven Shall Burn, and another with a hackneyed deathcore growl that probably has a curfew. Both songs on the Blight EP feature the hallmarks of post-Meshuggah deathcore: djenty bass work, choruses with clean guitar pickings, and clean-vocal-breakdowns. There are a couple of “wah-ah-ah-ah” segments on lead track “Armilus” that sound (hilariously) similar to Disturbed’s “Down with the Sickness.”
Blight is so chock-full of clichés that – fuck it, I’ve listened to this four times already. I’m not writing about it anymore.
1. Armilus – (4:36) – ★★☆☆☆
2. Dajjal – (3:53) – ★☆☆☆☆
